I, Science

The science magazine of Imperial College

This week we explore the ocean depths and discuss a day in the life of a marine biologist.

95% of Earth’s oceans are unexplored. Despite making the leap to space exploration more than 50 years ago the depths of our oceans are still a mystery. Oceans cover 71 percent of Earth’s surface and are huge carbon sinks, moderators of Earth’s climate and home to incredibly important biodiversity. This week’s show looks into what it’s actually like to work in the ocean as a marine biologist, the challenges facing aquatic biodiversity, the impacts of climate change on the ocean and how humans are helping to combat these issues. Joined in the studio by marine biologist Marianna Kneppers we explore the mystery of our oceans.
