French silent film The Artist has been a smash hit this year, amassing various Oscars, Academy Awards, Golden Globes and BAFTAs – and propelling adorable dog Uggie into stardom. Earlier this year at Imperial College, three students – including Juan Casasbuenas and Harriet Jarlett – decided to put a spin on this iconic film for a project module undertaken as part of the MSc in Science Communication.
They explored themes of scientific research, funding, public engagement and collaboration and produced the silent film below. It may take a bit of prior knowledge to fully appreciate the little nods and winks to key figures in the history of public engagement and the philosophy of science (DEMOS, Hilgartner and more) but it stands alone as a very high-quality and enjoyable film. Please comment and let them (and us) know what you think of it!

Bravo! I love it
