Women in Space

23 October, 2015 @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm

In 1963 Russian cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova became the first woman in space. But despite this apparent triumph for gender equality, it wasn’t until 1982 that another woman followed in her footsteps.

Even today space science is still male-dominated. So how will gender equality play out in future space programmes, and how likely is it that the first human on Mars will be a woman?

Join French cosmonaut Claudie Haigneré and the UK Space Agency’s Libby Jackson as they discuss these questions and the critical role woman play in space science, as well as describing their own singular experiences in the field.
