David Nutt UCL Addiction

UCL Neuroscience Society welcome back Professor David Nutt, President of the European Brain Council and Edmond J. Safra Professor of Neuropsychopharmacology at Imperial College London, to share his expertise on the neurobiology of drug addiction.
Widely known as “the scientist who was sacked” from the UK’s Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs for saying ecstasy is safer than horse-riding, Professor Nutt is a renowned psychopharmacologist who has led many initiatives to study drug addiction and revise drug policy. From his clinical leadership in the National Institutes of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, to his recent studies on the clinical benefits of LSD and psilocybin, and his reviews criticising the dopamine theory of addiction, Professor Nutt has spent his career challenging dogma and advancing the discipline of psychiatry.
